We are thrilled to announce that MANE JAPAN recently opened a new fragrance factory in Saku City, Nagano Prefecture. This momentous event marks the continuation of MANE JAPAN’s distinguished 68-year legacy and represents a bold step into the future.
The new plant is nestled in the pristine environment of Saku City, just over an hour from Tokyo, in a picturesque locale surrounded by majestic mountains. The similarities between Le Bar-sur-Loup and Saku City inspired us to set up the new factory here.
Amid numerous challenges, we succeeded in building a green field fragrance factory in less than a year. The design and operations of the new factory emphasise three core principles:
Employee well-being
- Incorporating new technology to support the physical well-being of staff.
- Designing workspaces with clear segmentation and ample room for productivity and comfort.
Environmental stewardship
- Implementing chimneys with odour control systems to minimise environmental impact.
- Growing a herb garden to invite nature into our facilities.
Sustainable business growth
- Expanding the site area to 25 times the size of the previous factory.
- Doubling the production capacity to meet growing demands.
The inauguration celebration began with an opening party held at the Hotel Indigo Karuizawa. The event brought together the Mane family and all MANE JAPAN employees in a warm and festive atmosphere. Jean Mane concluded in his speech: “By building on the past, you are paving the way to a brighter future. Wakon yōsai (Japanese spirit, Western technology) is the MANE way.”
The festivities continued the following day at the Saku site with a commemorative ceremony attended by the Deputy Mayor of Saku City, local community members, and key fragrance industry partners. The programme included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a guided tour of the new factory, and traditional Japanese cultural highlights such as a wadaiko (Japanese drum) performance and a kagami-biraki (sake barrel opening) ceremony to pray for the prosperity of MANE and the local community.
This two-day event inspired and united the MANE JAPAN team. It also strengthened our resolve to carry out MANE’s mission, as we embrace the principle of wakon yōsai - Japanese spirit with Western technology - in every aspect of our operations at the new factory.
